I have been inside in the dark all week. On the plus side, I was 5 hours into overtime at the end of yesterday. From here it's all time and a half. Yay! It's going to be a lovely paycheck.

10/12 tech #1

I've made it to the home stretch of this ever so long rehearsal. It's 10:47, I've been here since 9am, and the rehearsal ends at midnight. Think of the paycheck, I tell myself as I try to stay awake. First thing today I made a magic sheet for the LD because he didn't know what scroller channels went with which light, and I didn't want to look it up more than once. For those not in the know, that's SO not my problem. When we needed to write an effect, it took twice as long as it should have. This has been one slooow tech, and we get to do it again tomorrow. It's now 10:53, and SMJ, who is laying under the counter sleeping, is snoring quietly.

Blackout has gone to the great cardboard box in the sky.

back downtown

The next light hang downtown is Monday. Luckily I got my keys back yesterday, and a parking dealie to boot. Hooray! Sadly, I do have to share, but that's no surprise. Now I have to organize the carpool Monday. I'll be sharing the parking pass with the sound guy, and he lives close so that'll be no problem for the performances. I don't know how it will work for tech though. I'm sure we're going to need to be there at different times. Bah.

At the coffee shop, there's a new barista. She doesn't like the creepy guy at all. Last night she told him to leave. He vacated the table and went to the bar area, which is a considerable improvement. She's my hero. :) We've had much better luck lately at getting a table. Donald pointed out to me that there are only about 2 weeks of classes left. 2007 is speeding by.

so very dull

I'm having a boring week. I agreed to be the light board operator for the UMKC dance concert. I knew they needed the help, and it pays a little. But DAMN is it boring. So far this week I've spent about 13 hours sitting in a chair behind a light board. Not just any light board, but one with a shifty "2" key. So when I want to push "2" I frequently get "22" or "(nothing)". Very annoying, and makes things take longer.

I'd be happily wasting time on the internet in there, sucking up the wireless, but for some reason my laptop won't get a signal there anymore. I played hearts for a couple hours Tuesday, and lost several times. Damn you Pauline! Yesterday I just read. I finished Red Mars, so now Mike will be happy. He's been trying to get me to read it for about a year. It was interesting enough that I'm going to get the sequel, Green Mars, from the library.

Continuing saga of teeth

I called the dentist yesterday because after I got 4 fillings a week ago, one tooth in particular still hurts a lot. I can't chew on the right side of my mouth because of it, and I figured I needed to get that checked out before I get more teeth drilled. After all, I'd like to be able to chew on at least one side of my mouth, if I can't have both. :P So I'm going in Thursday. What a pain! Donald got a frickin' crown and 3 fillings and he's just fine now. Sigh!

DVDs for me

Yesterday was productive for me on eBay. I managed to snag Battlestar Galactica (Season 1) for $36 shipped. That's a good fifteen bucks less than I would have paid at Best Buy, with tax. With the dollars I saved, I also got The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou for $8 shipped. Now I'm on the lookout for BSG Season 2 at a decent price.

Dental Fun

I got 4 fillings today. Such fun for a lovely Monday afternoon! The right half of my face is numb. Even better, I get to go back in 2 weeks to do the left half. Whee!! I'm having so much fun I may take a nap.

Closed

Done with Janis! Closed yesterday. It was a mostly uneventful day. I say mostly because the second guitarist did manage to get sloppy drunk between shows. So drunk in fact that he was having trouble speaking, and wasn't playing the guitar very well. Stage management didn't know about it until after intermission, and from then on watching him was pretty much a huge joke. He held it together onstage pretty well, but after the show there was some regurgitation in an inconvenient location. All in all, for an eight week run, only one drunken band member is actually pretty damn good.
