One show closes, and another one opens. We've been loading in 2 Pianos, 4 Hands this week. It's been hard work, but not too bad. We've had a small crew, but a good one so the work has gone pretty quickly. Tomorrow is my only day of tech before I go out of town. It's too bad that I'm missing the rest of tech because 1. I like the LD, and it won't be torturous like the last tech, and 2. I don't make any money when I'm not there. :(

I've been feeling kind of crappy this week. My throat started feeling scratchy Sunday, it hurt to swallow Monday, and one tonsil was visibly swollen yesterday. Last night I came home from work, ate something, and fell asleep on the couch for 2 hours. I'm feeling better today, so I'm hoping it goes away quickly. I don't have time to be sick right now.

Because this is a very dull post, here's a hamster with a carrot:

snackies

Studio 60 was good tonight! I always said it needed more Allison Janney, and it delivered. I also said it needed more guy-who-played-Toby, but you can't win 'em all.

One benefit of working at the downtown theater is the chance to mooch food. They have some kind of reception about once a week, sometimes more. And yes, they are catered. Usually, the people who the reception is for are going to see the play, so we can sneak in and get some tasty leftovers just before the show starts. Yesterday I snagged a stuffed mushroom, some veggies, and 2 different kinds of tasty cheese on toast, one pesto and one sun dried tomato. Today was even better, because they held a reception, and nobody came. The catering people (who are getting to be like our best friends) said they'd have to throw it all away, so we dug in. We had just enough time to get someone from backstage to come up and grab some plates to take down to the crew. I happily helped myself to spinach artichoke dip and chips, roasted vegetable crostini with goat cheese, and some damn good apple crumbly cake. It was a good night. :)

walking

I walked so much on Monday that my legs hurt in a new place. I usually walk over to Brookside, then up to 59th street and back. On Monday I decided that 63rd isn't that much farther, and I wanted to go to the Dime Store. So I walked to the store, bought a couple things, and walked back. That was a little over 2 miles. I had a meeting at Muddy's at 1, so I walked there too; then walked to CVS and back home. After Donald came home, we walked to Muddy's again, and back. My legs got a good workout that day. Go me, and my aerobic exercise.

Today I walked up to 61st St, then went over and came back down Charlotte. I walked about 50 minutes, so another good walk. Other than that, my life has been uneventful. I go do the show every night except Monday, and that's about it. I'm really looking forward to the wedding weekend and seeing everybody! We'll be driving, so we have buying gas to look forward to. The gas prices are just ridiculous lately, and of course will only go up. That was part of my motivation to walk so much Monday. Walking is free!

PS: Did you all know that George Foreman grills are fantastic for making sandwiches? Well they are! And grilled cheese too!

Ah Costco

I just got both parts of Battlestar Galactica Season 2 for $45 at Costco. Amazon lists this 2-pack for $52. Yay! I love getting a good deal. I also got about 10 pounds of frozen fruit for all the smoothie goodness I can handle. And more delicious kettle corn. :)

Then I paid $42 to fill up the car with gas. :( Good thing Toyota Camrys are pretty fuel efficient and don't need to be filled up often. Also good thing that with the carpool to the theater, I only drive every other day.

14 layers? wow!

Last night I made 14 layers of dip, and Donald helped. Okay, actually we made two seperate 7-layer dips but it's more fun to say 14 layers. We're having another potluck at the theater today so I made one to take and one for home. The show continues to go on, in a dull manner. I continue to get a lot of reading done.

Lately at Muddy's I've been enjoying melon Italian sodas. A barista suggested it, and I'm getting very fond of them. They're a pretty pale green color, and don't taste like any specific melon. It sounds kinda gross but is surprisingly tasty. The melon flavor isn't too strong, and combined with the fizzy soda water it makes for a very refreshing drink.

I walked 40 minutes Friday morning. It felt good to stretch my legs again. It hurt a little because I'm out of practice. I decided I need to walk earlier that I did Friday. I got home about 10:30 and it was getting pretty warm out. I can achieve this if I do not turn on my computer first thing when I wake up. If I eat first, then walk, then shower, THEN waste time on computer I should be able to finish my walk before the firey thing in the sky gets too hot.

Dental Fun- cont.

I went to the dentist again on Thursday. After more biting on blue paper ("Now bite down, tap tap tap taptaptaptap.") dentist decides my "bite" is fine. He says the tooth may be cracked, and I might need a crown. Then I got pissed. The tooth didn't hurt at all or give me any trouble until AFTER he drilled the hell out of it for a filling. So lucky fucking day for me. It's now been a month and a week since I could chew on the right side of my mouth. Monday, I'm calling another dentist to get a second opinion. Rrarrghh!! I hate going to the dentist.

Chopped

Yesterday the lawn guys chopped up my plants. On one hand, there were some bloomed out flowers and grass there, looking raggety. On the other hand, if they had taken ONE moment to look at the area, they would have seen 8 little planting tags, and several non-weed plants. I was just thinking to myself that I ought to trim off the old stuff, but then it was too late. I spent the last month covering them up when it got cold, and watering them when it was hot. I was really enjoying looking at them every day, and watching them get bigger. I was just thinking that I should take pictures, so I could compare when they get bigger. Now I get to start over. The boss lawn guy was apologetic, and offered to pay for some new plants, so I went to the plant store, and replanted a few.

Here's the whole area, after chopping and replanting. You can see the tall stuff that I replanted. There is thyme towards the steps that is mostly okay, since it was very low to the ground.I planted new peppermint next to the old one. It might grow back, it still has a couple of leaves.

The spearmint however, hasn't got much of a chance. Just a bit of stem left.
My dad dug up these hens and chicks at my grandma's farm in KS and brought them back for me. This is the biggest one, the big "hen" is about 6" around. It sends out arms to grow the "chicks," then they put down roots of their own.

This used to be a hen. Unlucky for it, it stuck up and got thouroughly weed-whacked. There were bits of leaves everywhere.
There are several other hens scattered around. They're pretty small, so they escaped being completed demplished. The hen in this picture is only abut 4" across.

It was pretty disappointing to see my plants chopped all to hell. But they're plants, and should mostly grow back. I also planted a few seeds for flowers, but they may not come up. I don't think the dirt is the greatest in my planting area. I did find a lot of worms when I was planting though, and they're good to have in a garden.

thursday's events

I got some stuff done yesterday. I was ever so glad to hang around my home. After I took a shower, I did a load of cold gentle laundry. My intent was to wash ALL my bras. Now, they say on the label that they should be hand washed cold, but I have accumulated a lot of bras over the years, and hand washing would require me to clean the sink first. They went into the machine. Then I did the dishes. Then I laid the bras out to dry at around 1pm. As Donald mentioned, the humidity lately has been riciculous. The bras weren't dry when I left for the theater at 5. They were finally dry when I got ready to go to bed around midnight. Damn you, Missouri and your damp!

And it's open

Oh what a profitable week I had last week. In the end, I was almost 30 hours overtime. On the down side, The show is short so my show call will only be 3 1/2 hours. Thus, on a typical 8 show week, I will be getting 28 hours of work. Drat. Next week we have 10 shows, one of which is a 10AM creature feature (kiddie matinee.) That means I will get 7 more hours of work, but I have to be at the theater at 8:30 AM Tuesday. Double drat. :P

Yesterday was 31 cent scoop day at Baskin-Robbins. I gave it a try on my way to the theater, but when I drove past the store in Brookside I saw about 15 people in line. The line was out the door already! I gave up my hopes of ice cream, and headed to the theater. It worked out well on the sweets front though. The SM made a peanut butter chocolate chip cake, and one of the actors made chocolate cheesecake cupcakes. Tasty goodness.
