Satisfied

I'm feeling content at the moment. This week I worked a bunch at the Rep, then switched over to the Unicorn for Rabbit Hole. Thursday I went in to install my groundrow and do a couple of other notes. Then we had a paper tech. For the non-theatre folks, a paper tech is when designers and the Stage Manager sit down together and the Stage Manager writes all the cues into her prompt book. Of course, you change them all when you get into tech, but it's nice to have something to start from. Then after a dinner break, I did a lightover. Light over is when the Lighting Designer fiddles with lights or writes cues during a regular rehearsal. Again, saves a lot of time in tech, because then I don't have to start from scratch. That way, everyone doesn't have to wait on me to build a cue, since I already had one to go from. It went well, I wrote a bunch of cues and took a bunch of notes on things that needed to be fixed.

Today I started the day by not hitting or getting hit by any other cars. I consider that to be a nice success, since it was already quite slippery at 9:45 am. I slid a few times, and the windshield kept icing up, but I made it and parked safely. At 10 am we started a dry tech. Dry tech is when the director and designers and crew go through the whole show without actors. The purpose is to look at light cues and listen to sound cues and make adjustments before adding acting into the equation. A big element of today's dry tech was setting turntable speeds and marks, since the majority of the set is on a turntable. We made it through by about 4, then I discovered (glee!) that I didn't have to be at the evening rehearsal. I worked on some of my notes, and headed out. Clearing the car was easier than expected, all the icy crap brushed right off. Then I just had to drive slowly home. Again, I avoided getting creamed by fast driving idiots. Once home, I made food for dinner and to take with me for tomorrow's dinner. Then I updated some paperwork for the show. To finish the day, Donald and I got delicious coffee. I can't believe we left the warm house to do it, but it was worth it.

Tomorrow and Sunday: more tech. With actors. I anticipate bursts of working on cues mixed with chunks of waiting. At least I will have The Internet.
