Saturday Donald and I went to register at Bed Bath and Beyond. As we were getting set up to register, the woman told us that we should register for 3 items for each person we invited. Yeah, right. I know their job is to sell us stuff, but I'm not registering for 300 frikkin towel sets. I don't think there are 300 things in BBB that I want. Donald and I wandered and scanned, and it was all very lovely. We picked out a silverware set, I'm pretty excited about that. We will finally have matching silverware! Wow, that's a pretty lame thing to be excited about. Oh well! My mom thinks a lot of people won't look at the resistry anyway, so we'll just wait and see.
Robyn and Mike came over to watch the 'lympics and eat stuff. The delivery from Kin Lin was a success, but I think we may have gotten overcharged. Either way, we had a nice time and got coffee and played some cards. We seem to have settled into a comfortable little rut. I'm prefectly happy with it, too. I like coffee and friends.
Yesterday was a dance hang and focus in White Hall. Ugh... It took FOREVER. Lately, we've had this thing down to a moderately speedy process. Yesterday though, we had to rehang a bunch of new lights and bench focus them. Bench focusing is when you get the lamp aligned in the reflector to produce the most even field of light. Not a complicated process, but time comsuming when you have to do over 100 lights. It's wonderful to have new equipment, but as with anything new, you have to do some work to get it useable. We started hang at 9, took an hour for lunch and an hour and a half for dinner. We started focus around 7. The ideal amount of time for focusing a light is one minute. When you are a grown up lighting designer, you should be able to focus very fast and efficiently. By 9, we had focused maybe 25 lights. I knew then, that we would be there very very late. We left about 1:15. The most frustrating part is that there wasn't much we could have done to make it faster. We couldn't start focus until after dinner, so even if we'd worked really fast in the morning it wouldn't have gotten us home sooner.
