I'm so glad to have a day off. Last week was looong. And cooold.
Lemme sum up. Thursday the 25th I left for a week long ALD job in Kentucky for an opera. Despite having internet access all over, I didn't post for some reason. The job was fine, Louisville was okay, and I had more free time than I expected. One night I saw a play at Actor's Theatre of Louisville. Too much free time, and by that I mean that the time I spent sleeping some mornings would have been better spent working on the damn show. They had a stupid schedule that put the lighting designer way behind, and he never did get to a bunch of stuff that he wanted to. Also, the hotel was gigantic, but not especially nice; and the food it sold was both overpriced and crappy. And no free breakfast! Stupid hotel.
I got back last Thursday, landed and got picked up about 4pm. I had dinner with my folks, then went head fist into Love, Janis tech at 6:30. As the light board operator, my job is much more than normal. Normally, the stage manager says go, I push the button, and go back to my book. This show, I often have to keep time with the music while making lights flash in time with my left hand, and listen to the SM and push go with my left hand. It's a lot more work and responsibility. But now that I'm getting better at it, it's starting to be fun too. I also will be basically in charge of making sure all the lights work every day, and please join me in hoping that they do work. I say this because it will be a lot of work to change some of the lamps. A lot of work that involves me and probably 3 other people wrestling a several hundred pound genie lift into a place to get to the lights. Not fun.
So today on my fabulous day off, I plan to purchase food, and maybe some clothes. I've nearly worn out all my sox. I need to watch the tape for last week's Studio 60 before watching this week's episode. I need to make some food to eat. And I plan to spend some time with Donald, who I've barely seen at all since I got home.

Welcome Back! Yes, you should watch Studio 60; this three-part story seems very intertwined. And you have time you return well heroes-wise, because tonight might be the best episode yet since the 22nd. I hope that your lights work, your weather stays managable and that you have time to relax during Love, Janis.
